UPLIFTED-REBIRTH OF THE BANG...May 18th 2013

Here we go with my second post of my Blog, The Music Dose.

This past weekend I attended a monthly party created by Bradford James & company. This is just one of the monthly events Mr. James host and spins. He is Co-founder of Seed Recordings, an all around artist, Bradford has intertwined people together all over the world thru events in NYC & Boston.

With over 25 years in the business and a DJ & music producer,he has a long discography with original productions and remixes for labels Shelter, Yoruba, Air Drop, Shack, Trippin, Quantize, Future Vision & Plastic People to name a few. He currently resides as a resident DJ of Uplifted & Seed In The City Madness Events in Brooklyn.

This event was in the tradition of the old-school loft parties, it had plenty of space, lights, Bass, food & BYO. Hostess Maureen & China Dutchess (Life of a DJ's Girlfriend) greeted dancers at the door.

This month's line-up consisted of E-Man,co-owner of LIBERATE RECORDINGS, Franky Hows, co-owner of KIDZ in DA KUTT & www.chilloverradio.net, Guest Dj Brian Burnside, co-founder of DEEPA GROOVES, Murvyn Jean-Pierre of SoulCraft and Guest DJ Mr. V, co-founder of SOLE CHANNEL MUSIC.

The night started with Bradford in the booth as he set the mood with his deep selections. This was my first time hearing his full set and although I'm not a "Deep" fan, he had me "bopping" and "tapping" to his set, I'm a fan. The vibe was definitely there and that's when I decided that music should never be categorized into sub-genres.... So lame.

Next up was E-Man whom I never had the pleasure of hearing him live...He did his thing as he took the crowd on his short journey, his set was not long enough. He went in on some classic rock re-edits and it took off from there. He did some Deep grooves, Jackin and a touch of Tech. He can play what he wants and make it work. E-Man began DJ'ing throughout New York City and producing notable nightclub events including the revered Bang The Party weekly. He is also the co-owner, along with Chicago’s Doc Link, of Liberate Recordings an independent music label which has many tracks available on TRAXSOURCE. Catch him on the Liberate Sessions radio shows featured weekly on: Smoothtraxx.com, Chillloverradio.com, Guessradio.co.uk, Sobelnationradio.com and Cyberjams.com.

Brian Burnside followed and we had just met and I was curious to hear him play. A Brooklynite for many years and now living on the West Coast, he played like he was from NY still, you can take the man out of NY but you cannot take NY out of the man. He brought it up a few notches with some Big room, Tech and everything in between. You can catch him this week at CIELO.

Now we come to Mr. V, If you haven't heard him play then you haven't heard HOUSE and you are living under a ROCK! The man has been all over the world and to be able to hear him play right here in NY is a treat for those living here. Mr. V has countless originals, remixes & collaborations under his belt. His sound is eclectic and his sets are always full of surprises. He plays without boundaries and his selection always seems to flow, expect the unexpected when he plays.

Franky Hows then took over the decks and proceeded to fill the room with more Bass. This too was my first time hearing him live and he didn't disappoint. We had finally met even tho we are friends on FB and we instantly clicked. My man has plenty to say and he does it with his set. I'm looking forward to hearing him again.

I regret not getting to hear Murvyn Jean-Pierre because I had to leave, it was only 5am, lol... Loooooooong night it was for me and a loooooong drive back up to the mountains.

The night in my opinion was a success, the sound was right, the lights set the mood and the food was BANGING! I truly miss the Loft parties of "Back in the Day", and Bradford is bringing it back. Everyone there was present for one thing, great music, great company and great memories.

This party continues every month in Brooklyn and if you haven't attended you should make your way there next month...

Now for the shout outs to those I personally know who were present, lets see, my better half Maritday Rodriguez, Shamika Sanders, Mari Oliver, Anthony Poteat, Carlos Mena (I don't know him yet), & Maureen Cortes.

I'll be adding more content to my Blog, as I get inspired from YOU!

DJ's, Producers, Promoters, Venues, Fans and Dancers.

Reviews will be add for art/music events as well. If you want your event/track/venue featured, feel free to reach out. I've been asked if I will give any bad reviews, not really, I just won't write about it because it will just be my opinion, but if something is obvious like the sound system, lack of staff and security, maybe rude patrons (can't help that), but I will not talk bad about someone's "Art", whether its about a DJ, Singer, Producer - why? Because someone else might be "feeling" it - to each his own.

BIG WEEKEND coming up and I'm not sure where to go yet - Stay Tuned...

MASTER KEV'S BIRTHDAY BASH W/ HECTOR ROMERO,SHAMAN VYBEZ,DJ JASK...NYC BAR13

What's gooooood Music world?... Let me start by stating I am not a writer by a long shot and I do my talking mostly with my music and pictures, so with that being said welcome to my debut on BLOGGER! The purpose for this Blog is to keep you in touch with some of the music scene happenings with event dates, many pictures and Interviews with some of the industry's Djs/Producers/Artist and fans of HOUSE & HIP-HOP...

Initially my first post was going to be about my BFA, Master Kev and his birthday bash @Hector Romero's FULL BODY WORK-OUT event in NYC, so here it goes...This was a special night for me, opening up for 2 of the industry's well known Djs, Hector Romero & Master Kev... it didn't stop there because Kev's good friend Dj Jask flew in from Thailand to join the line-up...WHAT A NIGHT!!

First up was yours truly and may I add this was a milestone in my fresh new career...fresh in a sense that I'm new to the scene but old-school when it comes to the craft...I was a 80's thru mid 90's Dj doing small gigs in community centers and a few NYC Bars/clubs, then I stepped down to concentrate on other things..

More on that some other time..

Opening up for Hector Romero was a vision I had back at my first WMC in 2012, that was where I re-united with the HOUSE scene. My wife and I stood the whole week and networked 80 hours to get re-acquainted with the music. That's where we fostered some new friendships starting with the lovely Megan Finnegan (did I spell that right?) who then introduced us to her brother who was non other than the one they called Master Kev..Hmm, Irish cat who loves HOUSE music and knew how to play?

I was curious,so that week I made sure I made time to check him out..It took me one event to know he was the real deal...we went to every single event he was scheduled to play. We exchanged numbers and he kept me informed with text where he would be playing next...a friendship was born. That same week I re-united with Hector Romero who I watched play in NYC's 80's music scene... Those were the days...

It was Djs like Hector that got me going every weekend to the dancefloor. We met in the lobby of the CLEVELANDER waiting for the elevator to attend an event with Mr.V & Duce Martinez on the rooftop. I took the opportunity to introduce myself and expressed to him how his music career has influenced me as a kid and now as an adult... Just seeing him at that moment let me know that the music was still very much alive. He was kind enough to speak with me and gave me some advice...
I ended the conversation with "you know, I'll be spinning along side of you one day?" he replied with one of his contagious smiles...

Well that day came last Friday! Talk about getting what you wish for~I WISH!I WISH!I WISH!

I was a bit nervous for obvious reasons but I soon got into the groove... Having Hector and Kev behind me as I played was pure bliss... I had them bopping... It felt great to get approval from these icons... I rocked out for two hours, then came Hector...

That night Hector reminded us why we love this music as he brought the room to another level, it was a tease because soon after he stepped aside to make room for Dj Jask... It was my first time hearing this cat..WOW! Not to be stereotyping anyone but DAMN! If you saw this dude on the streets one would never think this guy had so much SOUL! AMAZING selection of music Jask...

At some point in the night Hector returned to the decks to slay us some more with his selections... ANIMAL! He proceeded to take it to yet another level! SLAYED IT!..The room was prepped now for the birthday boy... Kev did his set and he did not hold back... my man covered it all... I swear this dude is not just Irish, sooooo much SOUL!

He was also visually entertaining with his hands making that mixer scream!..and if that wasn't enough, he recruited Duce Martinez to join in the frenzy..many of you know how Duce can perform hence "DUCE IS WILD" phrase..together they beat up those decks and mixer...the crowd kept asking for more...

It was a special night for our friend Kev... many came to help celebrate this occasion...lets see, we had my lovely, amazing and super supportive wife, Maritday Rodriguez, My SFA-Maureen Cortes, Bradford James from SEED RECORDINGS, Our resident Divine House Goddess-Michelle Herrera, Duce Martinez, Gladys Pizarro of LAUNCH, Jae Vynel of Mix&Vibe/J.U.M.P., Alwaysb Marcella, Shamika Sanders, PHOTOMAN, Mr.V, Anthony Poteat of KIDZ in DA KUTT, The only house music cupcake maker-Marlena Avila, Bobby Morales, The WOZ-Scott Wozniak, and on Skype but definitely in spirit-The fabulous Francesca Guru, just to name a few...

That's it for now with my first post... I will try to do one every week... Next up is Bradford James and his REBIRTH OF A MOVEMENT events this Saturday..
